SLAC – PUB – 9255 June 2002 Tuning Knobs for the NLC Final Focus 1
نویسندگان
چکیده
Compensation of optics errors at the Interaction Point (IP) is essential for maintaining maximum luminosity at the NLC. Several correction systems (knobs) using the Final Focus sextupoles have been designed to provide orthogonal compensation of linear and the second order optics aberrations at IP. Tuning effects of these knobs on the 250 GeV beam were verified using tracking simulations. متن کاملTunability of the Nlc Final Focus System
The performance of the new NLC Final Focus system has been investigated as a function of the incoming beam characteristics, such as energy, emittances, energy spread. A preliminary study of the tolerances and the tunability of the system is presented in this paper. 1 FINAL FOCUS OPTICS The NLC Final Focus (FF) Design is based on the concept of local chromaticity correction [1]. After further op...
متن کاملOperation and Expected Performance of the NLC
‘The main linacs for the proposed Next Linear Collider (NLC) provide acceleration of up to 500 GeV per beam. The linacs operate in a regime where unavoidable imperfections and even natural ground motion cause significant emittance dilutions. In order to achieve the NLC luminosity goals, small emittance beams must be transported with an emittance growth of less than SLAC-PUB-7354 November 1996 O...
متن کاملCoaxial Wire Measurements in Nlc Accelerating Structures
The coaxial wire method provides an experimental way of measuring wake fields without the need for a particle beam. A special setup has been designed and is in the process of being fabricated at SLAC to measure the loss factors and synchronous frequencies of dipole modes in both traveling and standing wave structures for the Next Linear Collider (NLC). The method is described and predictions ba...
متن کاملManifold Damping of Wakefields in High Phase Advance Linacs for the Nlc
Earlier RDDS (Rounded Damped Detuned Structures) [1,2], designed, fabricated and tested at SLAC, in collaboration with KEK, have been shown to damp wakefields successfully. However, electrical breakdown has been found to occur in these structures and this makes them inoperable at the desired gradient. Recent results [3] indicate that lowering the group velocity of the accelerating mode reduces ...
